Two young orphaned children, who are wards of the local church at their home village of Cair Paravel on the magical isle of Narnia, discover a magical wardrobe that takes them to the magical land of Narnia. Both fall under the enchantment and come to love Narnia as their own kingdom. But years later, when they are entering adulthood and it is time for the children to leave the country, Peter's uncle tells them of Aslan, who will take care of them forever if they choose to stay in his world. Lucy has lost the power of speech, but her siblings do not understand why. Peter is given a sword by an old man in a dream. Aslan tells them to go to the Stone Table where he will meet them. Aslan tells Edmund, who betrayed his siblings to be eaten by wolves but was spared because he was honest about his actions, that he has one final chance to redeem himself. Because of this betrayal by Edmund, his siblings had nearly been killed; instead, Edmund was turned into a wolf himself and raised under Professor Kirke's care, where eventually he grew out of it and regained his true self (and also learned that Peter and Lucy were alive all along) thanks to Aslan's mercy. Aslan then tells Peter that he will become the High King of Narnia and tells him that he must clean his sword in a pool of water. When Peter does this, his sword is instantly made whole and bright and new (representing the fact that when he was in Narnia last time it had been battered and dull because it had been in a sheath all the time). Aslan tells him to go to the pool again and when he goes there, hundreds of swords come floating onto the surface like leaves in autumn (representing how Narnia needs a king). His sword recognizes the others as his brothers and sisters and calls them to come. Aslan himself appears to him and tells him a prophecy: a great Prince will bring him death at his own request, but the world will be saved through this. Peter himself is guilty of this prophecy, since he is the one who asked Aslan to die on the Stone Table that night, asking for it because he believed his siblings would never return from their adventure into Narnia without him. He was willing to die if it meant that they would be able to go back home safely. At this point a celebration ceremony is held by the Narnians in Cair Paravel where a statue of Aslan is to be unveiled. Peter returns from his meeting with Aslan and dances with his siblings at the castle. The next day, Peter and Susan head for home where he goes back to his old life in England. But this time, working in a garden with an older boy, Digory Kirke (who had been friends with him when they were young) and spending some time with his aunt's family, he realizes that something is missing from his life. He feels that he doesn't fit into their world of England proper, unlike Narnia where he felt right at home. cfa1e77820
